Digital communications today comes in threes -- web, email and social.
The cornerstone remains web sites and their companion online systems. Second is email, where you regularly talk to those who want to hear what you have to say. And third is social media, the great fad and opportunity in today's online world.
But social media to most means networks like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. What all too often is forgotten is the blog a company can use to effectively converse with their customers and prospects.
Maybe because it requires more effort or must be operated by someone experienced in the company and it's business, blogs sometimes fall second to the easier, quicker, but more restrictive social media networks. It's simply far easier and requires much less knowledge about the company and it's products to pop out 140 character tweets than it
does to write a meaningful short story on subjects important to your customers.
But blogging is the epitome of good customer communications. It can cover any range of topics in a very flexible manner with multiple end results. Blogs, done well, are conversations between company and customer. Blogs thrive on useful, relevant information that the customer will want to print and save. Blogs exhibit not only good information about the company, it's products and services, but can also exhibit the personality you want to convey, bringing a human quality to the interchange.
